The Story so far…
I have been working as a designer and web professional since graduating from Ulster University in 2008 with a First Class Honours Degree in Interactive Multimedia Design.
In my first industry role I had the opportunity to join Clearleft as part of their Internship Programme which was an unbelievable experience. During my time on the sunny south coast of England I worked with some of the most taleneted designers and developers in our industry, working on projects for the likes of Mozilla, The British Film Institute, Gumtree and St. Paul’s School London.
Having returned home to my native Omagh, Northern Ireland, I joined Lairdesign (now LD2) which was the beginning of a 12 year journey. Whilst my official job title read Junior/Senior Web Designer, over the years my role included everything from one end of the design spectrum to the other.
Corporate Identity Design, Typography and typesetting, through to User Experience Design, Animation and elements of Video Production — essentially all the skills needed to create robust, effective Branding.
Under the guidance of Niall Laird, founder of LD2 (Lairdesign), the studio became well known throughout Ireland. We worked with everyone from small start-ups, helping some of them grow into multi-million pound companies, right through to National Organisations.
Our clients included the GAA, Ulster University, IT Sligo, BA, Horse Racing Ireland and Hickey’s Pharmacy to name a few. We even started a GAA Inspired fashion brand: Squareball.
My primary role was within the digital side of the business, where I was involved in the management, design and development of our website projects. Working with our clients to create bespoke mobile-friendly websites using WordPress as a Content Management System.
In 2020, in the midst of a global pandemic, I had the opportunity to make the jump into self-employment and LD2 Digital was born.
